DRDO laboratories procure books for its user community on defence, science and technology. This list provides number of books each libraries in the respective labs are holding since their inception. These books are either procured or obtained on gratis basis.
DRDO undertakes projects in four different categories. These are: Mission Mode (MM), Technology Demonstration (TD), Science and Technology (S&T), and Infrastructure (IF) development. In the recent past, a fifth category, viz., Product Support (PS) has been added to cater to the activity relating to productionisation/transfer of technology (ToT) and limited upgrades. DRDO works with a financial allocation of about 5.2 per cent of the country’s defence budget which is very modest in comparison to established global leaders like USA, UK, Israel, etc. DDR&D’s budget over the years.
DRDO has organised its human resources in to three cadres, viz., Defence Research and Development Services (DRDS), Defence Research Technical Cadre (DRTC), and Admin and Allied Cadre. Every year Recruitment and Assessment Centre (RAC) recruits Scientists in DRDS mostly at entry level (Scientist ‘B’) through Scientists Entry Test (SET).
Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehra Dun, under DRDO, is devoted to research, design, development and technology transfer in optical and electro-optical instrumentation primarily for the Defence Services. To achieve excellence in the fields of Optics & Electro-optical Instrumentation with a commitment to provide high quality Instruments.
Microwave Tube Research and Development Centre (MTRDC) is focusing on design and development of various microwave tubes, electronic power conditioners, microwave power modules and transmitters for communication, Radar and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems and other applications. To strive for indigenous development and facilitate production of state-of-art microwave tubes, microwave power modules, high microwave sources, cathodes and electronic power conditioners in synergy with research, academic institutions and industry.
Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) Filter development centre has pioneered in the Design and Development of Hydraulic and Lubrication filters for Aircraft systems, MBT-Arjun and Naval systems. Design, develop and lead to production tracked armament vehicles and specialist vehicles to meet the needs of the service. Build technological capabilities in critical areas including test and evaluation of Combat system.
DRDO undertakes projects in four different categories. TD projects are undertaken to convert the technological feasibility into useable entities like sensors, components, devices, modules, etc.
DRDO attracted attention of the parliamentarians throughout the year. Member of Parliament from both houses raised questions on subject matters such as BrahMos missile, Kaveri engine, Low Intensity Conflict (LIC), Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Missile Development programmes, Performance of DRDO, Self-reliance in Defence R&D , Exodus of Scientists from DRDO and Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun.
Formulation of overall DRDO budget based on the assessment made from the analysis of demands received from labs/estts.Allocation and Priority based enhancement of allocations (where necessary) of funds to labs/estts/programmes/high value projects. Formulation of Revised Budget Estimates (RE) based on review of expenditure status, additional demands against existing and new schemes and projection to MOD (Fin) alongwith the Forecast Budget Estimates (FBE) for the next Financial Year.
DRDO exhibited its capability by developing the state-of-the-art electronic systems, which include Communication, Command and Control Systems, Radars, Electronic Warfare and Electro-optical systems. There is also Significant achievement of technology development in the areas of Advanced Computing, Image Processing, Microwave Tubes, Solid-state Materials, Devices and Lasers. Over the years DRDO has developed many outstanding technologies and product.
