Section-I contains information relating to the outcome of pregnancy(s) (live birth/still birth/abortion); birth history; type of medical attention at delivery; details of maternal health care(ante-natal/natal/post-natal); immunization of children; breast feeding practices including supplements; occurrence of child diseases (Pneumonia, Diarrhoea and fever); registration of births, etc.
The District Level Household and Facility Survey (DLHS-4) is a nationwide survey which was conducted during 2012-13. The ever-married women’s questionnaire contained information on women’s characteristics, maternal care, immunization and childcare, contraception and fertility preferences, reproductive health including knowledge about HIV/AIDS. The village questionnaire contained information on availability of health, education and other facilities in the village, and whether the facilities are accessible throughout the year.
The District Level Household and Facility Survey (DLHS-3) is a nationwide survey covering 601 districts from 34 states and union territories of India. This is the third round of the district level household survey which was conducted during December 2007 to December 2008. Data was collected from 7,20,320 households from 28 States and 6 Union Territories of India during 2007-08. From these households, 6,43,944 ever-married women aged 15-49 years and 1,66,620 unmarried women aged 15-24 years were interviewed.

To ensure the delivery of treatment to persons living with HIV, the estimates for total number of people needing treatment have been generated. These estimates are calculated considering the national guidelines for initiation of ART in adults. Up to the year 2008, this was based on CD4 count less than 200 cells/mm3 and from 2009-2011 at CD4 count less than 250 cells/mm3. National guidelines for initiation of ART in adults and adolescents were revised from 2012 at CD4 count less than 350 cells/mm3.

Estimating the number of people living with HIV in a State is vital not only to assess the burden of the disease, but also to understand the future need for treatment and to plan testing programmes in specific geographical areas.
The data refers to State-wise Estimated Number of Mothers Needing Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV (PPTCT) with Uncertainty Bounds. Parent to child transmission of HIV is the primary cause of new infections among children. PPTCT services has a triple benefit of saving the life of the woman, protecting her new born and protecting the family against orphan-hood.
