In 1951 elections, 401 constituencies. Upto 1957 election, certain constituencies were represented by 2 or 3 seats (abolished vide Two-member Constituencies Abolition Act, January 1961). In 1957 elections, 403 Constituencies. In 1980 elections, election was not held in 12 Seats of Assam, 1 Seat of Meghalaya.
